Happy April Fool's Day!

I don't really know the origin of this day, but I'm rather fond of it... Not that I like to be tricked or have jokes played on me...but let's be honest, this is a funny 'holiday!' We are having our state testing this week at school. The kids have been restless after sitting through the 2 hours of testing each morning...so today one of my kids brought a cake to school. Her mother is always baking home-made cookies or some cute treat that looks like it belongs on the cover of Southern Living, so I didn't think a thing about it... I was a little hesitant about feeding my kids SUGAR right before their tests, but thought it would be ok for today in light of this 'holiday'... So as I began to cut into the cake, I noticed it was rather tough to cut into! Mrs. Debbie Westbrook got me...underneath that beautiful white homemade buttercream icing with sprinkles placed just perfectly on top...there was green styrofoam! April Fools! :)

Today is a special day in our family too. My brother Tim and his wife Amy had their first little boy on April 1st just six short years ago. Understand this is the brother who was ALWAYS pulling pranks on us growing up. He was the kid who would poke & prod me in the car as soon as my mom & dad turned their heads... He was the kid who would take in stray cats and "hide them" in our shed... that kid... :) SO when Tim called us April 1st, 2003 to tell us the doctors had kept Amy & decided that she was ready to have little Jacob, OF COURSE we didn't believe him... It took alot of convincing for my mother to actually realize he was telling the truth! Sweet Jacob Hunter is in kindergarten this year & is the funniest little boy. He is star student this week & is more than excited about his football themed birthday party this weekend.

A friend of mine that I grew up with (Rachel Rhodes Berry) is having her first child today. She is expecting a little boy & is more than excited about having him on "April Fool's Day." She also enjoys this holiday... I'm very happy for her & this new little boy's grand appearance today.

On another note...
The fellowship group that I am involved in at our church has really begun to crawl into my heart & find a place to roost. :) When Bubba & I first moved to Southaven and began to attend Trinity, I was excited but nervous at the same time. Growing up with my dad as a pastor, I never had to worry about where I went to church or what I was involved in there - because I was involved in everything everytime the doors were open! :) When I went to college, I realized that I had to make the decision on where to go to church & pray about what to be involved in...it was a maturing, but good transition time for me. I definitely missed my dad's preaching :), but I was very thankful for the Godly men who led the church I attended there in Jackson. When I moved to Birmingham, it was no question where I would attend church. Brookhills was/is an incredible place to worship & hear the Scripture spoken each week... This transition to Trinity was no question, as well. I had heard Bro. David's dad preach there in Jackson, and heard only great things about the church. We were very thankful, but again, that nervousness, stemming back from that transition time in college, was still in the back of my heart. Bubba & I prayed about this change, and we were very confident that was where God wanted us. Over the first few months, I got involved in this bible fellowship group, and God has really given us a band of brothers & sisters to grow with. I'm more than thankful for these friends and for how God is stirring our hearts to grow and not be complacent. I am blessed!
