First of all, let me just say that I just had a realization last week that I am now in the process of becoming a mom. This realization came to me when a teacher-friend of mine gave me a "Mom" charm, a little happy she saw Labor Day weekend & said she thought of me. I guess I have been so excited about BABY, that I haven't really thought much about the fact that this new human being will be calling me MOM. I had a little emotional (everything's emotional, I know) :) time driving home one day this week as I thought about the responsibility and really JOY this idea of being a mom brings to me. Now, I know that I don't understand the first tip of the iceburg of what it is to be a Mom, that this love I already have for little Crowder pea will only continue to grow... That as this child grows, I will hurt more and want more for him/her than I ever did for myself. I know I don't understand the depth of that yet, but I guess it has all just started to sink in.
I am MORE than thankful for the mother that God has blessed me with. Janet Lynn Heuser Strevel Culver is one spectacular woman who was raised in an alcoholic home, has gone through loss and scary times, raised a daughter after her first husband was killed, found the Lord, and fears HIM above all else in her life. She loves my Daddy with all her heart and has shown me what it is to be a godly mom, wife, pastor's wife, teacher, best friend, etc. I love my mother, and I'm thankful for the blessing she is! When I think about the love that she has shown me over the 24 years 11 months and 23 days of my life, I get a little emotional knowing I am about to have that chance/responsibility/joy in someone else's life, but I can already see how God is preparing my heart and transforming thoughts, goals, & priorities already. Again, I don't know if anybody is fully ready to be a mom, but I can see how God is beginning that change in me.
Bubba and I both are fully looking forward to meeting our firstborn. Of course our questions now have to do with whether or not it's a boy or a girl, what we'll decorate the nursery in, wondering exactly what day will be his/her birthday, etc... I'm sure our questions will conform to: how can I get him/her to sleep longer, why is he/she crying now, how do I get these diapers to not leak, what time is nap time, etc... :) I'm thankful I have such a good man to go through this with me. He has already been such an encourager and support!
All this wrapped up to say, I'm excited about being a mom, and I can't wait to hold my little one in my arms. All those days of playing house and taking care of my cabbage patch kids and barbies to the best of my ability - to the days of babysitting in high school and college - to loving on my nephews and nieces with all of my heart...I can't believe it's actually my chance at taking the reigns over as MOM! :)
