The most current news on my mind is that some very good friends of ours are going to be parents! Jonathan & Noelle have always been very sweet & welcoming to us since we have been at Trinity. I'm more than excited for their big news, and I have no doubt they will be awesome parents!!
The next item on my mind is the chaos that work has had already this year. It's November, and I'm ready for summer break. :) Praise the Lord, nothing too extravagant has happened to me, but it's been a year of massive surprises, heartache, rude and demanding conferences, and tons/tons/tons of unanswered questions. I'm looking forward to May already but trying to learn in the midst of it all. And really, overall, it's been an ok year. :)
Third thing on my mind is our house. We are going on 15 months of having our first home for sale. I do not doubt that the Lord gave us an awesome deal/open door when we bought this home...as I have no doubt that he called us away from that home when he did. It's kind of crazy to think that we have lived out of that house longer than we lived in that house. I trust that the Lord has a plan, and that Troy Tabor can help us find a buyer soon!
Next thing on my mind is how much life has changed over the last few years... Graduating college, moving, SL tour, SL camp, getting engaged, 1st teaching job, SL camp as a married person, moving away from friends to a new church, adjusting to that new family, apartment life again, teaching at FA, a free summer, teaching at FA this Fall, moving in with the rents, etc... Life has really changed...really. There are times when I miss former seasons of my life. The carefree days of college when my biggest monetary concern was paying my sorority dues. The days of Chace Lake Villas when there were 6 girls living in the bottom two apartments...those days were so much fun!! Days of riding in vans across the entire United States to show people the love of Jesus in SL fashion. Days of Riverchase Middle, my first year of teaching/engaged/planning a wedding... Walking pneumonia didn't stop me! :) Looking back on all of those days brings a smile on my face. I am thankful for the journey. In that journey, I've learned a few things...
Family was a constant. Relationships changed. Friends move away. Jobs change. But my family was always there.
The Lord loves me & has a plan. This means no matter whether I understand everything or not!
And my job is to make sure my life is in line with where God's voice is calling me. I feel sometimes like I limit Him into this little box of comfort. I put these boundaries around my life that are dangerous to my obedience. Lord, please don't let me get comfortable....
One of the last things on my mind is my country.
I love this place. After having visited other countries in the world, wealthy and even 3rd world countries, I am more than thankful to live in the United States. I love the melting pot of ethnicities, cultures, music, traditions, etc... No matter what, this place has always seemed to be just what its name says..."united." This Fall brought an interesting picture of our country as we neared & then completed the 2008 presidential election. Over the last year, President Bush has been labeled more names than you would even think about labeling a stray dog. Do I agree with everything that he has done over the last 8 years? No, there are a few things I disagree with...but does that mean that he was a horrible president? Absolutely not. It irks the fire out of me to hear some lofty speaking, trendy, "Christian," college junky bash the President & tell me just how horrible he really is... Ok, 2o year old, you go run the country during one of the hardest financial times we have ever been in, and how about we throw in two wars on top of that! I think any president would have a tough time making a perfect decision every single time something came up. Ugh, that kills me. And all of the sudden, just because this president has done a "horrible" job, you want me to vote for someone who has all the answers? Anyone who claims to have all the answers probably has few to none. Higher taxes and government controlling all of those higher taxes is not the answer. Government funded healthcare and medicaid is not the answer. Stem cell research, partial birth abortions, and legalizing homosexual marriage is not the answer. Supporting someone who supports these items is definitely not the answer...no matter how smooth they can talk or what age, color, political party, etc they're a part of. I don't think we are under the "anti-Christ" now, nor do I think all of our guns are going to be taken away... But I do think that we will continue to see it "politically incorrect" to stand up as a Christian with non-negotiable morals. I do think we will see our firearms and ammunition taxed almost 300% more than it is now. I do think we will see a rise of intolerance towards what we were founded on. And that's what concerns me. Open your eyes and look around you. The good news is that Christ is in control no matter what, and I have no need to worry. I'm called to pray for my new president, which I take as a serious calling. I'm not called to support him in that I compromise what I believe in. I voted this year, and it felt good! :)
On another note...Thanksgiving is almost here! Christmas decor is already for sale in all the stores. I was walking around in Walmart last week, and Christmas music was playing! CRAZY, but I'm ok with it! I absolutely love this season!! Growing up, we used to always go to Chicago to visit family during our Thanksgiving break. I think the last year we took that trip was my sophomore year of high school? After that, we got to go to my grandmother's house and see all of my dad's side of the family... Since the year Bubba and I were engaged, we have made the trip to Valley to visit his family. There are talks of going to Dallas this year to see Petey & Ashley. We'll see what we all end up doing! No matter what, I'm sure a good time will be had by all. And you better believe I'm one of those "Black Friday" shoppers... Crazy, but I love it. Mom & Erika always liked to go...I hate that we don't get to go together anymore! We'll see how this year goes!
Well, I have officially procrastinated in making an English test for my students. It's almost midnight, and I still am awake because of a late afternoon nap. I'm ok with it...Friday is almost here. :)
